ROGERS PARK COUNSELING PLLC
TONY COUTURIER, MA
He/Him
Part of the process of therapy involves understanding that it is not a cure-all, a balm for the wider systemic issues that plague our society. Being human requires courage to face up to the huge task that is simply living in a world that is overwhelming. Psychotherapy draws on more than psychology and the techniques of counseling, it draws on the whole experience of being human. As such, I find it important to incorporate knowledge of the arts, philosophy, biology, and social sciences—when appropriate—into my practice
My primary focus is helping clients build trust and a safe relationship with which to explore deeper and more sensitive topics. Folks would describe my counseling style as warm, curious, casual, adaptable, and empathetic. I place emphasis on helping clients build insight and compassion for themselves through exploration of past and present.
My approach to therapy is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing together relational psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, gestalt therapy, and existential therapy. I strive to self-reflect and acknowledge how my own identities contribute to my worldview, privilege, and potential bias.
Specific concerns I have experience working with are trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety (existential & social), bipolar disorder, body dysmorphia, gender dysphoria, polyamory and non-monogamy, ADHD, substance abuse, and loneliness. I am comfortable working with adults 18+ of all backgrounds, and have particular experience working with LGBTQIA+ folks and neurodivergence. I am neurodivergent affirming, which means I see autism as an identity rather than a diagnosis.
