ROGERS PARK COUNSELING PLLC

CATHERINE ZHONG
They/She
I walk alongside my clients through life changes, loss of loved ones, and tensions in relationships in therapy. I aim to be collaborative and relational in my approach to those from all walks of life because I know that relationships can bring pain, but also healing. Through this lens, I support those with a range of struggles including anxiety, trauma, grief, infidelity, life transitions, identity exploration, and post-divorce issues. I enjoy working with those on the margins, especially immigrants, queer and BIPOC folks, and see individuals, couples, and families with teens.
I was raised in Seattle by Chinese parents, but have found home in Evanston. I attended Northwestern University for my Bachelors in Communication Studies and my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. During my studies, I adapted models like Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gottman methods, and Emotion Focused Couples Therapy for clients with diverse identities. I am also a researcher at the Northwestern Two-Generation Research Initiative, applying my family-focused lens to education policy.
My identity has shaped me to believe in leading with curiosity and respect when I encounter others even in conflict or disagreement. I seek to surround myself with counsel to meet the frictions of the world. If you are looking for a therapist who believes in creating a welcoming and compassionate space, it would be a privilege to accompany you in change.
